Harvest

We've never had a garden during our married life. Mike's family had a large garden when he was growing up and he remembers long, hot hours of weeding. It all kind of turned him off to gardening as an adult...until recently.

Thanks to some leftover tomato plants from Rob & Meggan, we actually started a small garden this year. Our whole family went out back to our little flower bed, weeded and prepped the soil, planted the small tomato plants, watered faithfully and just waited. And sure enough -- miracle of miracles -- we are harvesting a pretty decent variety of red, ripe juicy tomatoes (and had to weed very little actually, thanks to Preen).
The little cherry tomatoes are really sweet. The kids have been eating them like popcorn.
Our little harvest has transformed Mike's attitude towards gardening. Every time the kids come inside with a bowl full of tomatoes, Mike's booming voice can be heard across the neighborhood (imagine the voice of Tom Hanks when he finally lights a fire in "Cast Away"), "I AM THE MASTER OF TOMATOES! LOOK AT WHAT I HAVE CREATED!!"
