When we saw the huge garden in our backyard, Mike & I immediately thought, "Hey, perfect spot for a pool!" We've also considered grassing it in and putting a swingset and trampoline there. Sport court? Firepit? One of those things may happen some day (to the bigger plot, anyway -- we'll keep the smaller ones regardless), but this year we decided to go with the garden and see how we do.
There are actually 3 garden plots -- one giant one and 2 other good sized plots. After lots of tilling and weeding, we actually planted this past weekend. We planted pumpkins, watermelons and canteloupe in the large garden and are hoping they spread all over the place. Then we planted tomatoes in one smaller plot and squash, zucchini, basil and peppers in the other. The kids didn't grumble near as much as I expected them to. In fact, Paige wrote on a school paper that gardening is her favorite thing to do with her family. :)

Mike has the only gardening experience in our family, although he claims that his knowledge is minimal. We're totally guessing here.

We should probably purchase some gardening gloves, but the kids weren't complaining. I hosed everyone off afterward, which added to the love for the gardening experience, I'm sure.

Any gardening tricks or tips would be appreciated. We know we have great soil because the gentleman who lived here was a master gardener. I'm sure he's up in heaven looking at us and shaking his head, hoping we don't kill all of his hard work. Help us out, Bob!
