Pet for a weekend

The other morning, Christian came up from the basement and said that a small bunny had fallen in his window well.  We had a similar incident at our last house when we saw a small bunny in between our fence.  We couldn't ever catch that one but suddenly we had a captive bunny on our hands.  And don't think for a second that our kids weren't totally thrilled. :)  Not sure how many tiny, wild bunnies there are hopping around Bountiful but we've now encountered 2 of them, so there you go.  After a call to the dr. and a vet, who assured us that as long as we were all up on our shots that we were fine, the kids rescued the tiny thing from the window well and we had ourselves a wee pet.

She (we think) became quite the neighborhood sensation.  The Olsens helped us set her up with a spacious box and a cool Utah blanket to nestle down in.  We had a stream of little neighbors coming over to see our short-term pet.

Yes, short-term.  I didn't think it fair to cage in the cute thing when it had been used to total freedom.  We kept it for a long weekend....

And then the kids had a tearful goodbye.  Well, Paige was teary -- the other kids took it well.  What brought a small amount of comfort was that we let it go in our garden, which is all but finished producing food for us anyway.  There's plenty of greenery still left, though, so hopefully this cute thing has had plenty to eat.  Assuming she's still around.  We're hoping for another bunny sighting before winter....

We had a bunny once when Connor was about three. It was the cutest thing ever. I love that you kept it for a weekend and set it free in your ever so abundant garden.
