Christian is working on his journalism merit badge for scouts. Last week, he set up an interview room downstairs in our play room--complete with a table, chairs for his "sources," and a bright light in case he needed to turn up the heat during his interrogation. He sat behind the table with a little notebook and pen and led each of the witnesses through a series of questions about our bunny-hunting incident recently. This is his "news" story.

About a week ago, a local Bountiful man, Michael Mayfield, discovered a small creature hidden in his wooden fence on his way to work. At first, the animal appeared to be a rat, but when Mr. Mayfield got closer, it turned out to be a bunny. The mother of the family described it as "a furry little thing that could fit in the palm of my hand."
Local Officials (Shanna Frame) made an effort to remove him, but could not coax the little bunny from the fence. Shanna and others tried removing boards from the fence, but that proved to be of no use. The first efforts were not very successful but their newer methods, such as bribery and scaring it, were more effective.
Then all at once, the apparently frightened bunny escaped from the fence. The poor Mayfield children say they suffered. “I was so sad because he leave,” said Noelle, the youngest Mayfield child.
As another week passed, and the Mayfields came back from Sun Valley, Idaho, the bunny was rediscovered by Christian Mayfield, the talented eleven year-old. He was outside one day and saw a small brown shape dart into the fence. Knowing it was their newly found friend, he rushed over and peeked in the fence. Sure enough, it was the bunny.
Though the bunny has not been captured yet, the Mayfields and others can describe it very well. Haley Mayfield, the over-competitive nine year-old said he was like a "squished up, brown firework." Paige Mayfield said he looked "brown, fluffy, and tiny."
As officials chase down this rogue rabbit, the Mayfields hope he is found before he is hurt.
